Visiting: Bodrum Castle, Old Stone Windmills, Mausoleum of Halicarnassus

Duration: 5 hours

Once arriving at the port of Bodrum your guide will pick you up and transport you to the first destination, the Bodrum Castle - a must-see for anyone wishing to visit Bodrum.

Known as St Peters Castle, it was partially built from the remains of the mausoleum of Mausolus which collapsed during an earthquake. It has huge exterior walls designed in the early 15th century by the famous German architect Heinrich Schlegelholt and is famed for its 5 towers known as the French tower, the Italian tower, the German tower, the Snake tower and the English tower. In its day, the castle was an important symbol of Christian Europe's unity against the ascending power of the Ottoman Empire.

The castle is still in excellent condition and now houses one of the world's finest museums, the remarkable Museum of Underwater Archaeology which hosts several Turkish cultural festivals throughout the year. The museum is an original, creative and exciting experience for any visitor, with an excellent collection of monuments, jewellery and seals dating back to the Old Bronze Age which were recovered by Turkish and American archaeologists. After the guided tour of the castle, including the intriguing Glass Wreck Hall, you will have time to stroll at your leisure or take refreshments in a nearby cafe.

After lunch at an authentic Turkish restaurant, it's time for a short drive to visit the Old Stone Windmills. Be prepared for photographs as this region is renowned for its picturesque scenery! We will then continue a short distance to the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus which has been hailed as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, before visiting the ruins of the Myndus Gate where we will trace the ancient walls and explore the ruins. Your guide is on hand to explain the history and answer any questions you may have. We will then visit the Bodrum theater, which is one of the oldest of its kind in Anatolia. It has an audience capacity of 13,000 and, following restoration, now hosts many concerts, dances and performances throughout July and August.

At the end of the day's explorations your guide will return you to your port of call in our luxury vehicle.
